Karelia University of Applied Sciences has been subject to employee co-operation negotiations
The limited company of Karelia University of Applied Sciences has been subject to employee co-operation negotiations on 30 January – 13 March 2013. The negotiations consisted of activities defined by the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings (334/2007), chapter 8 (co-operation procedure in reducing the use of personnel). According to the Employment Contracts Act (55/2001), § 5:2 and § 7:3, the negotiations were based on productive and economic reasons as a consequence of downsizing the operations of Karelia UAS and terminating certain UAS activities, of significant reductions in unit price finance and in chargeable services, and of changes in the activities of Karelia UAS and consequent rearrangement of duties.
These negotiations resulted in the following estimations of reductions in personnel.
- Terminations of temporary contracts 20 persons
- Retirements or part-time retirements 21 persons
- Shifting to part-time work 9 persons
- Terminations of employment 18 persons
The reductions are mainly targeted at terminating activities and activities that will be terminated in near future. The reductions will be mainly implemented during year 2013 and the aim is that they will have a minimal impact on teaching and on completion of studies. All students will be given the opportunity to complete their studies in accordance with their curricula.
