Karelia University of Applied Sciences passed the quality audit with excellent results

The quality management system of Karelia UAS is nationally at top level. The quality management system of Karelia UAS has been audited twice, in 2011 and in 2017. Karelia UAS is the only higher education institution in Finland (including both universities and universities of applied sciences) the quality system of which has reached the top grading, advanced, in both audits.

Karelia UAS received a quality label from the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre and it will be valid for six years. The quality label proves that the quality management system of Karelia UAS fulfils the national criteria set for quality management of higher education institutions, and corresponds to European quality assurance principles and recommendations for higher education institutions.

We are positively surprised and grateful for the results of our long-term work together. I would like to thank our entire staff, students and partners for this excellent result, states Vice President Pekka Auvinen.

The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre published the audit report of Karelia UAS on Monday, 29th January 2018. According to the report, the quality management practices of Karelia UAS form a dynamic and coherent system that covers all the key duties of the UAS. The practical implementation of the quality management system varies based on each individual duty, which has resulted in appropriate flexibility. The quality management system provides an excellent support for the overall strategy of the UAS and for the development of its operations. There is clear evidence of the impact of the system for the development of basic duties. Karelia UAS has a well-established quality culture that is characterised by extensive involvement and commitment, especially among the staff. The quality management system and the management of the UAS are transparent and easy to approach. The quality management system of Karelia UAS was assessed to be at an advanced level.

The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre has audited the quality management systems of all Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences twice. The first audit was implemented in years 2005-2012 and the last audits of this second cycle will be completed in 2018. Audits employ a set of criteria that is based on a scale of four development stages of quality management: absent, emerging, developing and advanced.
