Joint Application to Higher Education on 7 – 20 January 2021
There are three entrance examination possibilities for an applicant.
1. Online entrance examination
2. FINNIPS network’s online entrance examination
3. National entrance examination, the exam is taken on a campus, in Finland
Universities of applied sciences cooperate with each other in terms of entrance examinations. In practice this means that if you apply to two or more degree programmes that cooperate with each other you only need to take one entrance examination. See further information about the co-operating programmes.
In addition to entrance examination, students are selected based on SAT test results and Certificate-based selection. Read more.

International Business
1. Online entrance examination
The online entrance examination will be held on 2 February 2021. Invitation to the written part of the online examination will be sent by the end of January 2021 to all the applicants who submit the pre-task in time. Read the pre-task instructions here.
The online entrance examination consists of two phases:
Phase 1:
– Pre-task (min 4 points, max 10 points) – to be uploaded to the application form by 27 January 2021 at 3 pm. Please note, that invitations to the written part will be only sent to the applicants, who have submitted the requested pre-task on time.
– Written part on 2 February 2021, a timed written online exam (exact time to be announced):
– essay based on material given in the exam (min 10 points, max 30 points)
– logical thinking and mathematics (min 8 points, max 30 points)
Phase 2:
– Online interview (min 10 points, max 30 points)
Total min 32 points, max 100 points.
Only applicants with 22 points or more from the 1st phase (passing both pre-task and written part) may be invited to the 2nd phase of the online examination. Online interviews are held between 15-19 February. Each UAS will interview maximum 100 best candidates based on the points from 1st phase of the online examination.
For the exam you will need a computer, and an internet connection.
2. FINNIPS network’s online entrance examination
FINNIPS network’s online entrance examination in the field of business is organized on 9 February 2021.
All applicants are invited to participate in the written part of the online examination. The invitations are sent to the email address given on the application form by 5 February 2021. Applicants passing the written part will be invited to the group discussions.
There will be a pre-reading material for the Finnips online entrance examination. Study the pre-reading material here before the examination.
The examination assesses study and communication skills, verbal and written expression skills as well as mathematical/logical reasoning skills.
The structure of the exam:
• Written part 1: Essay (min. 3/ max. 10 points) based on pre-reading material
• Written part 2: Multiple-choice questions (min. 2/ max. 6 points) based on pre-reading material
• Written part 3: Mathematics and Logic (min. 2/ max. 8 points)
• Spoken part: Group discussion after the written exam (min.3/ max. 16 points).
Only applicants that have reached the minimum points in written parts 1, 2 and 3 will be invited to the group discussion part of the exam. Invitations to the group discussions will be sent by 26 February 2021. Group discussions will be held on 1 – 4 March 2021.
The applicants must pass all parts of the examination in order to be considered for admission.
Applicants must score at least 10 points in the entrance examination (max. 40 points).
The essay and the group discussion are combined in the entrance examination as an integrated section measuring English language proficiency. Applicants must receive at minimum 3 points for each language section. The section testing English language proficiency will be entered in the system with a pass/fail grade.
For the online exam you will need a computer with a camera and an internet connection.
3. National entrance examination held in Joensuu, Finland
National entrance examination in the business field, entrance examination is taken on a campus, in Finland will be held on 9 April 2021 (place: Karjalankatu 3, 80200 Joensuu, Finland). Please notice, that this admission criteria may still change if the on-site entrance examination cannot be organised due to the COVID-19 situation.
All eligible applicants are invited to participate in the examination. Invitations to the examination are sent to the email address given on the application form in the middle of March.
The entrance examination consists of the following parts:
Written part at 11:00 – 13:00
· Essay based on material given in the exam (min 10 points, max 30 points)
· Multiple choice based on material given in the exam (min 4 points, max 10 points)
· Logical thinking and mathematics (min 8 points, max 30 points)
Spoken Part (min 10 points, max 30 points)
Spoken part will be held after the written part. Please reserve up to 17:30 for the completion of the examination. The Spoken Part will take 30 minutes and the detailed schedule will be given on the exam day. Please be prepared to wait for your turn to the Spoken Part.
Total: min 32 points, max 100 points
The entrance examination’s written part will be at 11:00 – 13:00.
The applicant must pass each test section with minimum points in order to qualify in the selection process, the total minimum being 32 points. There is no pre-reading material for the examination. All material will be given during the examination.
The essay will test written English language skills. The aim of the Spoken Part is to measure the candidates’ motivation, suitability and career orientation towards international business studies and oral English language skills required in the degree programme. A separate English language test will not be arranged. The logical thinking and mathematics part consists of multiple choice questions about percentage, proportionality and probability calculations, logical thinking and equation solving problems. No calculators can be used in the examination.

Industrial Management
1. Online entrance examination
Online entrance examination will be held on 3 February 2021.
The exam contains two phases: 1) online exam and 2) online interview.
1) The online exam (mathematics, physics/chemistry + motivation)
• Points awarded: max 70 p; minimum requirement 20 p
Best applicants will be invited to an online interview based on the points of the online exam.
2) The online interview (will be organized on 15 – 19 March 2021)
• Points awarded: max 30p; minimum requirement 10p

2. FINNIPS network’s online entrance examination
FINNIPS network’s entrance examination in the field of technology will be organized as online exam on 10 February 2021. All applicants are invited to participate in the written part of the online examination. The invitations are sent to the email address given on the application form on 8 February 2021. Applicants passing the written part will be invited to the group discussions.
The entrance examination consists of Part 1 and Part 2.
• Part 1 – written online exam on 10 February 2021: Mathematics, logical deduction, Physics, Chemistry and learning prerequisites (minimum 10 out of 40 points is required). Of Physics and Chemistry, you can choose which questions to answer.
• Part 2 -: Spoken part (on 1 – 4 March 2021) : Group discussion after the written exam (min. 5/ max. 10 points).
• Only applicants that have reached the minimum points in written part 1 will be invited to the group discussion part of the exam.
• The applicants must pass both parts of the examination in order to be selected for admission.
• Applicants must score at least 15 points in the entrance examination (max. 50 points).
3. National entrance examination held in Joensuu, Finland
A national entrance examination in the field of technology will be organised on 8 April 2021 (place: Karjalankatu 3, 80200 Joensuu, Finland). All applicants will be invited to sit the entrance examination.
The entrance examination consists of three sections:
· Mathematical/scientific section
· SWOT
· English language test
The maximum score of the entrance examination is 70 points. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must score at least 20 points. Universities of applied sciences engaging in admissions cooperation will accept an entrance examination taken at another university of applied sciences.
