Karelia UAS Integration Services guide international students in various topics. Our services include a guidance service, pre-arrival webinars, an orientation course about Life in Finland, a newsletter and events that help students in getting familiar with their new home town.
Guidance for international degree students
Guidance for international degree students is available already before your arrival to Joensuu and throughout your studies. You can contact the Integration Services if you have questions in the following topics:
- Matters with different authorities and help for using different services (residence permit, DVV-registration, ID card, opening a bank account, Finnish social security, taxes etc.)
- Housing (applying for housing and other matters related to housing)
- Arriving with family members (schooling, daycare and other services for families)
- Social and healthcare services
- Public transport
- Free-time related questions
- Extra-curricular Finnish language studies
- General information about employment in Finland
- Getting familiar with city of Joensuu and North Karelia region
- Guidance in problem situations

You can also visit the Integration Services during the walk-in hours at our information desk for international students in Wärtsilä campus lobby during the academic year. The schedule is available in student intra Pakki. If neededn, you can also book private counselling sessions on campus or online.

Pre-arrival and residence permit info webinars
Before your arrival to Joensuu, you will have the chance to join our pre-arrival and residence permit info webinars. The webinars provide the incoming students important information about future studies, matters related to arrival and settling, and life in Joensuu. The webinars are organized online multiple times each spring and autumn. The schedule and instructions on how to join the webinars are sent to students from Karelia UAS Admissions Services.
Life in Finland orientation for International degree students
Moving to a new country is a big change in your life and raises a lot of questions. To help you settle to your new life in Joensuu, we have organized an orientation course to provide you with basic information that will be useful to you. The orientation course covers topics such as housing, employment, safety, Finnish culture and free-time activities.
Newsletter for international students
During your studies, you receive a newsletter about once a month from the Integration Services. In the newsletter you can find information about topical issues, upcoming events in Karelia UAS and in Joensuu as well as information about Finnish culture and way of life.
Discover Joensuu & Learn Finnish events
If you want to get to know Joensuu and learn a bit of Finnish while doing it, you are welcome to join our Discover Joensuu & Learn Finnish events. The event is organized about once a month and you can find more information about the upcoming events in student intra Pakki, info screens on campus and in the newsletter. The events are free of charge and a great way to get to know your home town!
