Karelia University of Applied Sciences hosted the INVEST Alliance Rectors’ Assembly, Steering Committee, and Local Coordinators’ meetings in Joensuu, Finland, from 2 to 4 June 2026. The event brought together key representatives from partner universities; rectors and vice-rectors, local coordinators, project managers, regional representatives – including vice-mayors from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and Nitra, Slovakia – as well as other experts involved in developing the Alliance.
During the three-day programme, participants reviewed achievements across the Alliance and exchanged views on strategic priorities for the coming years. Discussions covered key areas of cooperation, including education, mobility, research, and digital development, as well as updates from ongoing work across the Alliance.
Strategic priorities discussed at the INVEST Rectors’ Assembly
The meetings focused on strengthening cooperation between partner universities and supporting the long-term development of the Alliance. Topics included future governance structures, the possible development of a joint legal entity, and the use of shared indicators to monitor progress and impact. Participants also explored ways to further develop joint initiatives and increase the mid-term and long-term value/impact of INVEST for students, staff, and regional stakeholders.
Showcasing regional cooperation in Joensuu
Hosting the meetings in Joensuu provided Karelia UAS with an opportunity to showcase its strong regional partnerships and active role within the INVEST Alliance. The programme included interaction with stakeholders from across the INVEST regions, as well as examples of collaboration in innovation environments, highlighting the importance of close
cooperation between higher education institutions and their regions.
