The machine and precision tecnology lab at the Karelia UAS Wärtsilä campus offers modern facilities, equipment and services needed for machining, precision manufacturing and production automation.
We have special expertise and equipment especially in the manufacture of components and parts that require special precision, such as injection molding, material and mold technology. The environment also enables the development of production, the design of machines and machine systems, and the testing and design of material properties. The environment is widely utilised in the mechanical engineering and industrial management degree programmes.
Machining and testing services
Mechanical engineering testing and design services include services related to composite engineering, strength calculations, CAM programming, 3D design and metal processing. In 2025 Karelia invested in high-speed milling machine and metal and composite 3D-printer. Machining services can be utilised in demanding mechanical engineering part manufacturing. Product design, modelling, drawings, animations, simulations and prototypes can also be made as student projects.
Precision manufacturing and production automation services
Karelia University of Applied Sciences has been developing unique expertise in precision technology for more than 25 years. In cooperation with technology industries of Finland, Karelia has built a product and production development environment for precision technology and smart specialisation equipped with modern equipment.
Product development environment for precision manufacturing
Product development environment for prototype and small series manufacturing of precision-manufactured plastic and metal parts. Manufacturing environment for components and parts that require special precision and surface quality: product and mold design of plastic parts, mold manufacturing, injection molding technologies, integration of optics and electronics into plastic products, machining and measurement services for precision components and machining of optical parts, manufacturing of small metal parts by injection molding using powder metallurgy.
Robotic Production Automation Solutions
Application of robotic production automation in industrial production. A production test environment based on robotics, measurement, simulations, virtualization and digitalization for the development of the design, fabrication and measurement of welded and machined structures.
