Registration

After accepting the study place at MyStudyinfo, you must register as present or absent student for the academic year.

In addition, students are required to register as on-campus students:

  • Students starting their studies on January 2026: registration on-campus students by 16 February 2026.
  • Students starting their studies on August 2026: registration on-campus students by 30 September 2026.

During the on-campus registration process, the original educational documents used in the application process are verified.

Registration for the Academic year

The registration must be done before the deadline informed in the admission email and on My Studyinfo (login required). Once you have accepted the study place a link to registration becomes active on My Studyinfo. Please note, that if your acceptance is conditional, registering is possible only after the criteria of condition is fulfilled. That can be for example a tuition fee payment or completion of a degree used in the admission process.

The registration is always done for the whole first study year. Student will register either present or absent. When registered as present, you can pursue studies and receive student financial aid and other student benefits.

  • Students starting their studies on January 2026 will register to their first study year: Spring semester 2026 and Autumn semester 2026
  • Students starting their studies on August 2026 will be register: Autumn semester 2026 and Spring semester 2026 and

Students who are liable to pay tuition fee: after Karelia UAS has received your tuition fee payment, you will be registered as a present student for the first study year by the university. If you have grounds for registering as an absent student, please provide the required document to the Admission Services. Read more about it below.

According to the Universities Act/Polytechnics Act, a first-year student may register as absent for the academic year for the following reasons only:

  • service under the Conscription Act (1438/2007), Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007), or Act on Women’s Voluntary Military Service (194/1995)
  • maternity, paternity or parental leave
  • the student cannot begin studies due to being incapacitated by personal illness or injury.

You may register your absence, but you must prove the legal grounds for your absence. Documents proving the legal grounds for your absence should be sent via email or post, or presented to the Admission Services of Karelia UAS. The documents must be supplied by following schedule.

  • Studies starting in January 2026 by 27 November 2025 by 3:00 p.m Finnish time at the latest
  • Studies starting in August 2026 by 9 July 2026 by 3:00 p.m Finnish time at the latest

The documents delivered by post must also be delivered at given schedule.

If you are granted admission from reserve list, follow the deadlines mentioned on My Studyinfo service (login required).

Should the legal grounds for your absence apply only to the autumn term (e.g. military service or maternity leave), you must register as absent for the entire academic year.

If the legal grounds for your absence apply only to one academic term (spring or autumn), for example military service or maternity leave starting in January, you may register as present for the entire first study year. Before your absence ends, you must apply to change your registration status for the remaining term.

  • Kela’s certificate regarding maternity, paternity or parental allowance period or, if the certificate has not yet been received, a medical certificate regarding the pregnancy
  • Corresponding certificates from the authorities of other countries regarding statutory parental leave

3) the student cannot begin studies due to being incapacitated by personal illness or injury

  • Sickness allowance decision or, if no decision exists, a medical certificate. The medical certificate must state which illness or injury the student suffers from, and that this condition prevents the student from beginning their studies on 1 January (studies starting in January) or 1 August (studies starting in August).
  • Obstacles caused by the practical arrangements required by the illness or injury: an adequate clarification, e.g. a certificate from the student housing foundation that the student is on the waiting list for an apartment required by his or her injury. The student’s own notification is not an adequate clarification.

The documents must be submitted in Finnish, Swedish or English.

On-campus student registration and verification on educational documents

Students need to arrive at Karelia UAS campus by given schedule. You need to do the on-campus registration and leave your original educational documents you have used in the admission process for verification. The presentation of all original certificates is mandatory.

  • Students starting their studies on January 2026 need to arrive by 16 February 2026, at latest
  • Students starting their studies on August 2026 need to arrive by 30 September 2026, at latest.

Student admission is conditional until the student has made the on-campus registration and original educational documents have been verified.
