Readmission to studies

CASE A) The student has started studies before 1st August 2015

If you have started your studies at Karelia University of Applied Sciences or another university of applied sciences before 1st August 2015 and have lost your right to study for the following reasons
• you have not completed the degree during the set duration of studies or the discretionary extension period, or
• you have neglected your obligation to enroll as a student, or
• you have resigned from the university of applied sciences
you can reapply for the right to study to complete your degree.

The right to study can be regranted if you need to complete less than 60 credits for a Bachelor’s degree or less than 30 credits for a Master’s degree. If you need more than 60 credits to complete your Bachelor’s degree or more than 30 credits to complete your Master’s degree, you will be directed to complete the missing studies via Open UAS, and to reapply for the right to study once you have the necessary amount of credits or more.

The right to study can only be granted for the same or equivalent degree education as the previous right to study. The right to study will be regranted for a maximum of two semesters, starting from the next semester. Students with a regranted right to study cannot enrol as absent and they are not entitled to discretionary extension.
You can apply for the regranted right to study either in joint application or in a separate Karelia UAS application in the studyinfo.fi.

The separate application periods are 1.11. – 30.4. (student starts studies until 31.7.) and 1.5. – 31.10. (student starts studies after 1.8.).

When applying in a separate application, please note that the regranted right to study is covered by the One study place per term provision. If you are regranted the right to study for a degree, you will no longer be able to accept another degree-awarding study place during the same semester.

Student healthcare fee

Students attending a university of applied sciences who are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) have been required since January 2021 to pay a healthcare fee to Kela for each academic term. All students who are registered as attending for the current term and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are entitled to FSHS services.

If you are entitled to FSHS services, you must pay the student healthcare fee. You cannot get an exemption for example for using occupational health services instead of FSHS, or for not receiving any financial aid for students.

You are not billed for the student healthcare fee but must make sure to pay it in OmaKela for each academic term. How to pay the student healthcare fee.

The due date for paying the student healthcare fee is determined based on the date on which you register as attending.

  • For the autumn term, the due date is 30 September provided you have registered as attending by then. If you register as attending for the autumn term on or after 1 October, the due date is 31 December.
  • For the spring term, the due date is 31 January provided you have registered as attending by then. If you register as attending for the spring term on or after 1 February, the due date is 31 July.
