Karelia user­name


Here you can find instruc­tions how to acti­vate your user­name to Karelia UAS network and detailed infor­ma­tion. Please, read care­fully the instruc­tions below.

Students at Karelia Univer­sity of Applied Sciences will receive a user­name (Karelia ID) for the dura­tion of their right to study. The user­name is auto­mat­i­cally gener­ated based on the infor­ma­tion in the student manage­ment system, and it will be ready to use by begin­ning of August 2024. You will receive noti­fi­ca­tion to your email, when the user­name is available.

Regis­ter your user­name and start using a multi-factor authen­ti­ca­tion. Most of Karelia’s elec­tronic services require a multi-factor authentication.

Regis­ter your user­name at https://id.karelia.fi

  • Click “Regis­ter” and iden­tify with a Finnish bank ID or a mobile ID.
  • Read the user rules (https://www.karelia.fi/it-saannot).
  • Write down your 7 number username.
  • Change the pass­word (read the pass­word requirements).

Note! If you cannot iden­tify with a Finnish bank ID or a mobile ID, set up a meeting with Helpdesk: [email protected].

Note! If you forget your user­name or pass­word, you can always visit this site to check your user­name and to reset your pass­word.

Note! If you get an error message saying that you do not have rights to a Karelia UAS ID, try again the next day. Your user­name is gener­ated the day after your infor­ma­tion is entered into the system. Contact student services if you continue to get the same error message. The student services will check your right to study.

Multi-factor authen­ti­ca­tion (MFA)

Before you can use O365 services or Moodle, you need to set up multi-factor authentication.

  • Watch and follow the instruc­tions in the instruc­tion video.
  • Down­load and install Microsoft Authen­ti­ca­tor app to your phone from the app store.
  • Connect your Karelia ID and your phone’s authen­ti­ca­tor app at https://aka.ms/mfasetup.
  • Set up multi-factor authen­ti­ca­tion via SMS to ensure its function.

The Karelia Start Kit and Pakki portal

The Karelia Start Kit online course is to famil­iar­ize you with the digital envi­ron­ments and services of Karelia UAS before the begin­ning of your studies. This work space contains both text and video mate­r­ial as well as assign­ments. You will complete this self-study work space in Moodle. In order to log in you need course key: Start­taan

Once you have a user­name you will be able to login to Student Intra. It contains infor­ma­tion on studies
and services provided by Karelia UAS.

Log in to Moodle and Peppi

Moodle: Open https://m.karelia.fi and log in using “Karelia login”. Use the longer form of your user­name, username@edu.karelia.fi (e.g. [email protected]a.fi). Note that Moodle requires a multi-factor authen­ti­ca­tion, if you log in from outside of Karelia’s network. After logging in, search and join courses you have signed up for by using the “Search courses” search on the front page.

Peppi: Open https://opiskelija.peppi.karelia.fi. All of its func­tions might not be avail­able before your right to study begins. Log in to Peppi using the shorter form of your user­name (e.g. 88993342).

Email and other O365 services

Open https://portal.office.com and log in using the form [email protected].
Verify using multi-factor authen­ti­ca­tion on your phone.

After logging in, you have access to:

  • Email – Outlook
  • Cloud storage – OneDrive
  • Office Online – Word, Excel, Powerpoint
