Transfer Application


Applying periods:

1 – 15 November

The studies completed in the original education must be applicable in the education applied to. By the end of the application time, a first year student must have a minimum of 45 credits registered in the study register at bachelor level and at least 20 credits at master level. The weighted average of numerically assessed grades must be at least 2,00.

A student who has the study right in a Finnish higher education institution and has been
present at least one academic year can apply for a transfer.

A student should have performed well in his/her prior studies and have enough studying time left so that graduation within the set duration of studies is possible.

Transfer applicants who accept a study place will not be considered as first-time applicants in future admissions to higher education.

Tuition fees of Karelia UAS

Apply online at Studyinfo during the application periods. Karelia UAS offers these programmes: Industrial Management, International Business and Information and Communication Technology.

Please, attach the following documents to your application form:

  •  transcript of records
  •  attendance certificate with the information of the periods of being present or absent
  •  the letter explaining the reasons for transfer

Proof of Finnish language proficiency

If you are applying to transfer from an English-taught programme to a Finnish-taught programme and your mother tongue or language of prior education is not Finnish, you must demonstrate your Finnish language proficiency through the following language examinations or tests:

  • National Certificate of Language Proficiency (YKI) in Finnish: the intermediate level completed with proficiency level 4 in all subtests (reading comprehension, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking). Alternatively, from the advanced level examination (proficiency levels 5 and 6), at least three subtests must be completed with a passing result. Results from different examination sessions may be combined.
  • Civil Service Language Proficiency Certificate: examinations of oral and written skills in Finnish completed at a minimum level of Good (comparable qualifications completed before the 2004 reform are also accepted).
  • Combination of the YKI examination and the Civil Service Language Proficiency Certificate:
    • the YKI subtests in reading comprehension and writing completed at a minimum proficiency level of 4, and the oral skills examination of the Civil Service Language Proficiency Certificate completed at a minimum grade of Good, OR
    • the YKI subtests in listening comprehension and speaking completed at a minimum proficiency level of 4, and the written skills examination of the Civil Service Language Proficiency Certificate completed at a minimum grade of Good.

Without proof of sufficient Finnish language proficiency, you cannot be admitted to the programme.

Changing degree programme to the same study field within Karelia UAS

A transfer student is a student whose study right is transferred to different degree programme in the same study field within Karelia UAS. You must have a valid study right at Karelia UAS. You must have advanced in your studies as a full-time student. You must also have enough time left for the completion of the degree in the target study time. The weighted average of grades must be at least 2,00.
